What is the Gift Of Tongues?

The New Testament gift of tongues is described as that of languages of men which were spoken miraculously, without previous knowledge of the language. These "tongues" were given as a sign of conformation that the message was from God. In all cases written were of ACTUAL languages of MAN. As if an English speaking person of today, who never ever learned or spoke German, would suddenly, upon the laying on of hands and/or baptism, speak the Lord's message In GERMAN!

Mark 16:17-20 is the first recorded history of Speaking In Tongues: Jesus promises five signs which would accompany those who believed: (1) Casting out demons; (2) speaking with new tongues; (3) picking up serpents; (4) drinking deadly poison; (5) healing the sick. (NOTICE that Healing The Sick and Casting Out Demons are separate and DISTINCT signs and facts.) Where ever the apostles went preaching the word, these signs followed them confirming revelation of the gospel by miracle. Both sign and miracle were recorded in the New Testament.

In Acts 2:4-8. On the day of Pentecost twelve apostles spoke in tongues which they received through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Miraculously they all spoke human languages which where alien unto them only moments before!
